Can you bypass the A/C Bypass Pulley with a smaller belt?

(1996 Lincoln Mark VIII)
in Fall River, MA on May 14, 2012
The car makes a constant squealing noise. At first we thought it just needed WD40, but after looking at the pulley, it needs a new belt. My husbands wants to know if we can just bypass the AC pulley altogether, or does he need to replace the whole Serpetine Belt?

Best thing to do is stop by your local Napa store and ask the counter person to bring a tape measure out to the vehicle and measure the new route the belt would be traveling without going around the AC pulley, then they can match it with a belt with the same grooves and new length. Yes it would need a new belt
