Broken pvc valve and hoses

(1999 Saab 9-3)
in Greenville, SC on January 19, 2011
I had a Fuel pump replace, and the shop chose to install spark plugs, a fuel filter, and a very expensive fuel system cleaner. After that, the PVC breather valve, hose & nipple were disturbed and broken

I am not making excuses for the repair shop but often plastic in the engine compartment gets brittle and hard and breaks when disturbed. They should have informed you of the problem or alerted you of the possibility this stuff could break.

Thank you Patrick-they did not know what this was...and it was only after I was searching around the internet for pictures that I learned what these parts were. I guess, I was wondering if the PVC stuff would ordinarily have to be disturbed, disconnected or otherwise be involved in the fuel pump and spark plug replacement. Any answer on this one?
