Broken door handle

(2001 Ford Escape)
in Grain Valley, MO on April 27, 2009
My drivers side door handle broke last winter. It was a small plastic interior part that snapped causing the handle not to function. It was a quick and easy repair that was pricey. The passenger side handle is now broken also. You can pull it, but there is no resistance and the door does not open. I believe its probably the same problem. I would like to do the repair myself, but my Chiltons manual only shows repairs to the exterior. Are there interior repair manuals?

No. The factory service manuals would have the info you want. If you are mechanically inclined, you can purchase the part, remove the door trim panel and figure it out. You might see if there are body manuals at the public library, that might have the info you are seeking. You may find the Ford service manual online, many Ford dealerships have closed recently and there materials auctioned off, so there are a lot of the manuals in the public domain now. Good luck.
