Break pad low warning on dash?

(1990 Jaguar XJ6)
in Joplin, MO on December 18, 2010
We replaced all 4 wheel break pads. break pad low warning still lit.
Does anyone know how signal is sent from break pads to the warning on dash?
Is it activated via an 'open' 2 wire circuit or a closed (shorted) 2 wire circuit from the 2 wires on each set of break pads
Can you fool the circuit by a 'jumper wire'? or just by disconnecting the 2 wire connectors from each break pad set?
Does anyone know how this warning system works?
I could really use some advice and help
Much appreciated
Mark

Other than replacing the two brake pad sensors when you change the brakes i would have no idea.
