Break lights, flashers, turn signals not working. Help!

(1998 Ford Mustang)
in Villa Park, IL on May 05, 2009
My break lights, flashers and turn signals stopped working shortly after I heard a grinding sound coming from the steering collum. I've checked all of the fuses, all of them are fine. I haven't checked any relays, and I'm not entirely sure on how to either. I've been told that it sound like a multifunction switch, but I want to get as many opinions as I can before I go get the part and all that.

Thanks
