On August 8, 2017, BMW recalled 6,785 BMW X6 M. Bmw of north america, llc. (bmw) is recalling certain 2012-2013 bmw x3 xdrive28i, x3 xdrive35i, and m6 convertible vehicles and 2013 m6 coupe vehicles. the affected vehicles have a driver's frontal air bag inflator that may have been improperly welded.

During an accident where the driver's frontal air bag deploys to protect vehicle occupants, the air bag assembly components may separate, causing metal to strike vehicle occupants. This would cause serious injury and possibly death.

Recall repairs on your BMW must be performed by a BMW dealership. BMW will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in October, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local BMW dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

The front driveshaft universal joint can fail due to water and debris contaminating it, causing excessive wear. This would prevent the front wheels from being driven, affecting vehicle traction possibly leading to an accident. Driving with a broken joint may damage other vehicle components also.

The passenger frontal air bag assembly is deployed by an inflator which contains propellant that makes the air bag deploy. This propellant may degrade over time, especially when exposed to humidity and temperature cycling. As a result, the inflator may rupture on deployment, which can send metal shrapnel through the air bag, striking vehicle occupants. This could result in serious injury or death.

Vehicles equipped with an 8 or 12 cylinder engine are being recalled because the circuit board for the electric water pump can overheat. This could lead to a fire.
