Bmw of north america, llc, (bmw) is recalling certain 2011-2013 x5 xdrive35i, x5 xdrive50i, x5 m and x5 xdrive35d vehicles, 2011-2014 x6 xdrive35i, x6 xdrive50i and x6m vehicles, and 2011 x6 activehybrid vehicles. water and debris may enter the front driveshaft's universal joint, causing excessive wear and possibly resulting in the joint's failure.

The front driveshaft universal joint can fail due to water and debris contaminating it, causing excessive wear. This would prevent the front wheels from being driven, affecting vehicle traction possibly leading to an accident. Driving with a broken joint may damage other vehicle components also.

Recall repairs on your BMW must be performed by a BMW dealership. BMW will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in April, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local BMW dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

The fuel pump mounted inside the fuel tank may have wire contacts not sufficiently crimped. This could result in a fuel leak and vehicle stalling condition. This could increase risk of a fire hazard and crash.
