Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain 2008-2011 128i and 2007-2011 328i, 328xi, 328i xdrive, 525i, 525xi, 528i, 528xi, 530i, 530xi, x3 3.0si, x3 xdrive30i, x5 xdrive30i, z4 3.0i, z4 3.0si and z4 sdrive30i vehicles. the heater for the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) valve may short circuit.

The positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve has a heater as part of the valve that can short circuit, resulting in parts of the valve melting and risking a fire hazard. This can happen even when the vehicle is not in use.

Recall repairs on your BMW must be performed by a BMW dealership. BMW will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in December, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local BMW dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

The passenger frontal air bag may not function as needed in an accident due to deterioration of the passenger seat occupant detection mat. This mat determines if a passenger is sitting in the front seat, and if so, if it is an adult passenger. If the mat is deteriorated, it may not accurately enable the air bag to protect the occupant. This would increase risk of injury in a crash.
