On November 17, 2016, BMW recalled 91 BMW 550i. Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain model year 2011 bmw 528i, 528xi, 535i, 535xi, 550i and 550xi vehicles manufactured march 1, 2010, through august 31, 2011. the affected vehicles may have received a replacement sensor cluster unit (scu) during a service visit. these scus have an acceleration sensor that may have been incorrectly programmed and, as a result, the scu may not accurately determine if activation and deployment of the air bags, safety belt pre-tensioners and head restraints is necessary in the event of a crash.

The components of the safety restraint systems of the vehicle including the air bags, seat belt pre-tensioners and head restraints may not function properly in an accident, leaving occupants of the vehicle exposed to increased risk of injury.

Recall repairs on your BMW must be performed by a BMW dealership. BMW will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in December, 2016. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local BMW dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. The fuel pump mounted inside the fuel tank may have wire contacts not sufficiently crimped. This could result in a fuel leak and vehicle stalling condition. This could increase risk of a fire hazard and crash.
