On May 28, 2015, BMW recalled 420,661 BMW 330Ci. Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain model year 2002-2005 325i, 325xi, 330i, and 330xi sedans, and 325xi and 325i sportswagons, 2002-2006 330ci, 325ci, and m3 convertibles and 325i, 330i, and m3 coupes, 2002-2003 m5, 540i, 525i sedan, and 530i sedans, and 540i and 525i sportswagons, and 2003-2004 x5 3.0i and 4.4i sports activity vehicles. please note that the 5-series and x5 vehicles are only included if they are equipped with the optional sports steering wheel. the affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.

When deployed in a crash, the driver's front air bag inflator can rupture. As a result, metal fragments from the inflator can strike occupants.

BMW will notify owners of affected vehicles (a timetable for this notification is not available as of the time of this writing). You can check with your dealer to see if your vehicle is involved in this program. It is helpful to have your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on hand when you contact them.

Certain vehicles are being recalled because the driver and/or passenger airbag inflator may rupture upon deployment. Vehicle occupants could be struck by metal fragments resulting in personal injury.

BMW will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles during August of 2014. If you don't receive notification in a timely manner and believe you should have, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call.
