What is "bad" gas mileage for you, in your opinion?

Good point Dave. We don't know what engine it has. The poster needs to verify what exactly is the MPG. 18 to19 is probably is the best they will see.

first of all if you read the question dave an backyard you would have seen i wrote its a 4.0l V6 engine.and its getting like 10 miles to a gallon. thank you for reading all i wrote so carefully.

Please read my Answer #2: you will not it does not ask which engine, since you stated that in the question. I was only attempting to assess what your interpretation of "bad gas mileage" is.

Three more questions, please -- What transmission do you have (automatic or manual), is it 4x2 or 4x4, and are the tires the stock size?
on February 12, 2011
yes it has a automatic transmission and its 4x4,i believe im using stock tires.and i found that air filter box that the mechanic replaced has a break in it.which i can see a small part of the air filter. which im not to happy with right at the moment.at this very moment its getting roughly 8 to 9 miles a gallon.sorry if i didnt read the question right an i do apologize im just very frustrated.

No worries; we're here to help; mistakes happen regardless.

The air box leak is a HUGE issue, as you no doubt must now be aware. Sucking all that air will cause the engine to require more fuel to keep running. The fuel pump will literally keep dumping fuel to keep the engine running with all that air.

Fix that first, then re-evaluate the mileage...

ok thank you very much and ill get back to you

well fixed the problem and its getting 2.5 miles better a gallon but still is getting very poor mileage.its only getting like 11 miles a gallon. can a catalytic converter cause it to get mileage like that.

Sounds like you have spent alot of money without verifying scan data info to look at the input sensors and output sensors. If you have more money to shoot at the truck try a upstream O2 sensor.
