Internal trans damage most likely... No quick fix if so...Have mechanic do a simple *manual low* test to confirm.... only takes a SHORT test drive to do that!.. 'Mechanic' will/should know how!.. Don't start throwing parts at it... This is a simple bulletproof test !!!!

My 1993 GMC k1500 4x4 just had the smae problem. I put in some sea foam trans additive, No help. Drained that out put in some Lucas trans fix,That helped a little especially when it was cold, Still wouldn't go backwards without very high RPMs. Last resort, Had the filter and fluid replaced,Works just like brand new. I did all of this because I was told I smoked the tranny and rebuild or replace. What did I have to lose. new filter and fluid has 107,600 miles on the truck

Also have same issue on 1996 Silverado 4x4 plow truck did the filter and fluid change but didn't have same luck as you. Same as before. Planning on swapping out tranny from another truck with same numbers.
