AToday I filled my car and 40 miles later my check engine light came on.

My car started to jerk and now it wont start

It is probably unrelated unless you got bad gas. If it were a loose gas cap it would not cause a drivability issue. A scan tool will be needed to retrieve codes and see if the problem is fuel, spark or an engine mechanical issue.

It could be one of many things, not really worth guessing until basic diagnostic tests can be done.

Someone told me it may be a feul pump. Which I hear can get preety expensive.

It means your car has the obd2 code problem, you need a scan tool to diagnose the code, i know this tool is helpful for your car, or you can take yuor car to the Lincoln dealer, they will diagnose for you.
