A/c puts out heat

(1999 Lincoln Navigator)
in Waynesville, NC on June 22, 2010
In the winter, I have no heat from front-controled heater; rear is ok. After driving, stopping and restarting the car, heat will occur normally, front and rear.
In the summer, a/c will work front and rear, until I stop, restatrt engine, then heated air comes from front, cold from rear. A local Ford dealer checked it out but had no solution. Aren't the Navigator and the Ford suv and truck models much the same? What is the solution? Great car, cannot afford to sell/trade up.

There should be codes in the Climate Control Computer. The best thing is to drive the car while watching the data stream from the Climate Control Computer to see what is dropping out. Most good shops should be able to do this. The Dealership is not always the best Diagnostic shop, as you may have discovered.
