Your ABS system is to assist you in braking and steering, In the days before ABS system in order to control the vehicle during a skid you pump and steer the vehicle in doing this you were able to manuver the vehicle instead of applying the brake without ABS during lock up the wheel does not respond and if you try to steer away during a lock up you just go straight head on, With ABS it does the pumping for you and you just steer. When you have a intermittent ABS and the light is on you will have no ABS, the problem resides in the ABS wheel sensor having variation and yes it happen after the brake job, The sensor are contaminated,by metal shaving from the brake job.
