ABS Brake Module

(1999 Chevrolet C1500)
The ABS light was staying on some after start up of truck. Had it checked at a Chev dealer and was told it needed to be replaced but we could drive without having problems with the brakes. They wanted $1100. for the part and wanted to find a cheaper fix if possible. We did drive it and lost brakes. Had to be pulled in and ended up paying $1500. for repairs. We feel we were billed too much but had to have it fixed. Did have the repairs at a Chev Dealer. They checked out all other brake components but said no other problem was found. Should we still be concerned? Should we have driven with the problem even though we were told we could?

in most cases, you can drive without any problems. you were in the few that could not. you did decline the needed repairs. there is nothing wrong with what they did. fix it and move forward.
