OBD II Fault Code

  • OBD II P2183

OBD-II Code Decreased engine performance is defined as a Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit Range/Performance

The Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor measures the temperature of the coolant going through the engine. The engine's control module (PCM) compares two Engine Coolant Temperature Sensors and the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor to confirm sensor's calibration. If the PCM determines that one of the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensors has lost its calibration, the PCM will set code P2183.

    Decreased engine performance Symptoms

    • A/C may not operate
    • Decreased engine performance
    • Increased fuel consumption

Common Problems That Trigger the P2183 Code

    • Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor failure
    • Powertrain Control Module (PCM) failure
    • Wiring issue
