Engine noise, like a high pitched whine at engine speed when driving on Interstate, not so noticeable in city driving.

It's so hard to guess at the source of the noise without being able to hear the noise first hand. Can you determine if it is engine or perhaps wheel bearing related. If it is the wheel bearings it would hum or growl. If it is engine related (or drivetrain) it could be engine internal, or transmission related but could conceivably be something driven off the engine for example the power steering pump. Get an auto repair shop to check it out for you in case it could lead to something serious, but make sure a mechanic goes for a drive with you so you can point out the exact noise you are concerned about.
