Engine runs fine doesn't seem to overheat problem started by four five weeks ago the temperature gauge would heat up above 220 and then all the sudden drop back down to where it was supposed to be and then go back up again and come back down and it got worse and that goes all the way up to 260 and the check gages light comes on but the engine does not seem to be overheating

Was the temperature gauge *sending unit* on the drivers side cylinder head replaced?

Is that one of the sensors you’re referring to?

Defective ‘new’ thermostats are not uncommon.

‘IF’ overheating occurs going up a long hill - radiator restriction is prime suspect.

‘IF’ overheating occurs while sitting still or in slow traffic - radiator cooling *fan clutch* is prime suspect.

I replace the waterpump about 2 years ago I have a stamp thermostat now this is the fourth thermostat that I've had three cheap ones and this one it does it sitting still idling or going down the road. The sending unit was on the passenger side and the one right in the middle by the thermostat housing

This could be a few things but you need to verify if the engine is actually over heating or if it's a gauge issue. You can order a cheaper laser temperature gun online. Point it to where the coolant temp sensor is and see if it lines up with what the gauge is reading. If it is indeed over heating then you need to start with basics like making sure the fan is workings, the radiator isn't clogged and the water pump is pumping.
