1989 Cadillac Eldorado

(1990 Cadillac Eldorado)
in Ashland, OH on September 24, 2010
I pulled into my parking spot and went to turn the igniton off and the key turned back to the off position but the car kept running. We had to unhook the battery to shut the car off. Is the ignition cylinder bad or is it the ignition switch? My email is PaulGScribner@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Paul

I know you had to disconnect the battery to stop the engine from running, that can damage the alternator. It is better to remove the trim around the steering column and disconnect the electrical connector at the ignition switch. Sounds like a failed ignition switch electrical portion.
