I have a 97 VW passat and it won't drive forward or on in reserve. It starts just fine,but won't move. Can some one please let me know whats going on.

Unfortunately if the car is a manual transmission the clutch may be "burned out" and not transferring engine power to the gear box. If the car is an automatic the transmission may have failed. Its hard to be more specific without being able to experience the failure first hand.

if its auto, disconnect the trans module. as long as the linkage is good it should engage a gear. if it doesn't, its trans time. any noises? did you break an axel or cv joint?
