Question
I recently purchased a CLK350. It has the Nav package but telephone module is not installed. However, all the control buttons are present and obviously are connected to the control unit. I get a message that the "Phone is not available" when any phone control button is selected. Is it possible to install a phone module (perferably a Merlcedes-Benz module) without a major rewiring job? Are there other suppliers available? And lastly, does the control module have to be reprogrammed or will it auto-sense the installation of a new phone module.

These vehicles are definitely pre-wired for this set-up. You may have to go to the dealer for help--not sure that an audio shop in the aftermarket will be able to get the right equipment, but check that first and confirm, as they will have more cost-effective methods.

I have talked to the dealer from which I bought the car, but they are neither cost effective or interested in doing the work regardless of what I pay. They claim all new wiring harnesses have to put into the car which I'm sure is the factory solution. However, I'm wondering if a less invasive, aftermarket solution might not be available. Even if I have to find the parts, would it be possible to add the module without major surgery on the car or reprogramming the computers?

I'm pretty surprised by the fact that the dealer is saying there is no solution. I guess that means that it's a factory-installed option only, and there isn't a way to make it work after the car is delivered. That's really surprising.
My suggestion would be to pursue an aftermarket option, but chances are it won't work the way you want it to . . .i.e., like a fully integrated, factory-installed feature.

I own a '06 CLK. I didn't have th e phone option activated. I get the same message as you do. it is my understanding that if I want a "car phone", all the dealer has to do is activate the phone module that is already in the car.

It took some searching on the internet but I found a couple of options. There are two suppliers that I know of, mObridge and Cartronics. Both sell bluetooth aftermarket kits that are fully integrated with MB Command module. Cost $700-$900. There are also shops that will install. It takes some looking, but they are out there.
The dealer (at mine) doesn't seem to have any incentive to provide a solution.
