Front and/or rear sway bar end links may wear out prematurely, causing a knocking noise from the front or rear of the vehicle when driving on bumpy roads. Our technicians recommend inspecting the links at each service, they should be replaced if any looseness is found.

Knocking noises begin after driving the car for a few miles. They are loud and noticeable even when driving on relatively smooth, undulating pavement. Volvo service techs have been "unable to verify" this noise for over 20K miles! Took the latest shop foreman for a drive today. He heard the noise and suggested that it could be the sway bar link.
