1998 Ford Escort Question: won't stay started

car was running fine then went to drive it and it starts but dies won't idle

    It sounds as if you have either an air flow issue, or a fuel supply issue. You could have too much unmetered air getting into the intake, which can stall you out. Look for a cracked or disconnected air hose or air filter box. Or, look for a disconnected or broken vacuum hose.

    Beyond that, you will need to get a test, focusing on those items and base fuel pressure and bleed down. Best of luck!

    thanks I'll check out air flow and vacuum hoses and also if you hold gas pedal down it will stay started but surges and when you let off will die

    Exactly; when you increase fuel with your pedal, the abundance of air entering your intake becomes less of an issue. It's when you have a majority of air verses fuel that you stall.

    well found out the MAF sensor was bad so got one put in and work on test run n my wife drive 2 work but on her way home started 2 do same as b4 n check 4 code got P0102 MAF circuit low imput n code P0731 but no description on that code so now do I take it back out n have them replace it or could it b something else
