1998 Ford Escort Question: won't stay started

Answer 1
It sounds as if you have either an air flow issue, or a fuel supply issue. You could have too much unmetered air getting into the intake, which can stall you out. Look for a cracked or disconnected air hose or air filter box. Or, look for a disconnected or broken vacuum hose. Beyond that, you will need to get a test, focusing on those items and base fuel pressure and bleed down. Best of luck! -

thanks I'll check out air flow and vacuum hoses and also if you hold gas pedal down it will stay started but surges and when you let off will die -
Comment 2
Exactly; when you increase fuel with your pedal, the abundance of air entering your intake becomes less of an issue. It's when you have a majority of air verses fuel that you stall. -
