I really can't give you much advice on this vehicle because I don't have good information about the steering column and the shift interlock machanism.
I think it works by the the brake switch energising when you step on the brake and that unlocks the shift lock mechanism electrically. Check to see if the brake lights work, that would tell you whether that part of the system is OK. If there are no brake lights, check the fuse and the switch, check power at the switch if any doubt. If that's no help, you'll need to find a manual (public library?) or an auto parts store to get some details. I can't imagine how you fixed this temporarily unless you just don't turn the key to the locked position..

DID YOU TRY SPRAYING WD-40 ON PIN TO LUBE.I JUST TRIED THIS AND IT SEEMS TO WORK.BUT DONT KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL LAST.
