1999 Porsche Boxster Q&A

1999 Porsche Boxster Question: Windows have stopped lowering a little when doors open and close

The Boxster had a common feature where the windows would open and close a small way when you open and close the door. This has almost stopped on my driver's door. The window tries to go down a little but then stops. I have thought about possibly trying to clean inside but the window works fine otherwise so I am not sure if this is where the problem is. The big problem is right now the window catches the roof when you open the door. Any ideas? -
Answer 1
It could be electronic or mechanical. Perhaps there is a problem with the sensor that detects the door opening and closing? I would guess that cleaning won't help and you'll likely need some professional help. -
Answer 2
grease the rubber on the door where the glass slides. goto pep boys get a lubricant spray, the rubber dries out and grabs the dirt on the glass. -
Answer 3
The problem you're experiencing is due to a worn power window regulator. I had the same problem with my '99 when it was 9 years old with about 70k miles. The only fix is to replace the regulator. I found very detailed directions on how to replace them online and bought a pair for $450 at Partsbin - an online retailer. The dealership wanted around $700 apiece to replace them. -
