My A/C did not work. Another shop told me I needed an a/c compressor and dryer for several hundred dollars. On advice of a friend I took it to Wilkerson for another estimate. They told me the problem was a missing pulley that had worked loose and kept the a/c belt from working properly. This pulley was available from the dealer but at a really expensive price. I located a pulley from a recycling center (junkyard) online. Took it back to Wilkerson and had it installed along with a new belt. A/C blowing cold all the time now at hundreds less than another shop would have charged. I'll be back to them next time I have a problem. I found them very professional and always careful to let me know costs before doing work. This was in July of 2014.
After agreeing for work to be done on car's battery, additional unauthorized work done; car has additional damage due to faulty repairs. Overcharged.
Called and spoke with Owner Josh on Monday, Dec. 1 at 9AM for repairs due to dead Toyota RAV4 4 Cylinder car- we stated the issue was most likely due to battery. Agreed to have car towed to shop and inspected to repair BATTERY. NO mention of other work or charges. After a day of work, was called and told that work was done and car was running fine. Approximately an hour later Josh then called back to state that the car was now "bogged down" and running "kinda funny" and that there would need to be more work done. The car had no major issues and in fact was running fine prior to battery dying (full inspection with Oil change in November). After 2 more days total in the shop, the technicians still could not find the issue and told me to pick up my car on the afternoon of Wednesday, Dec 3. The car has an extreme stall when pressing gas and almost stalls out before accelerating; in fact, after we took the car from shop it died in traffic due to stalling out. To my surprise, Josh had also taken liberty to replace spark plugs and charged an extra 150 dollars which had not been agreed upon. Josh attempted to state that we needed an oil and filter change as well, which was not accurate as we had the car inspected by the maintenance schedule and it had been approx. 750 miles since last oil and filter change. By this point we were suspicious of malicious intent and requested the return of the old spark plugs. The shop could only provide a couple of the replaced plugs and stated that they had misplaced the rest. We intend to have the plugs inspected by a competent mechanic whom we trust. Josh also charged an extra 45 dollar diagnostic as well as another hitherto unmentioned 5% surcharge for "Miscellaneous" which he stated is a standard fee most mechanics charge. Upon questioning, would not give mention of what parts cost a flat percentage of total bill, as opposed to a set fee. After disputing this fee the owner stated that I was "talking nonsense" and had "no idea what the profession's standards are" and that the surcharge is standard. The total amount was approx 440 Dollars, and the issue is much worse. I believe the business practices employed at Wilkerson Tire, Inc. were both deceptive and unfair to the consumer.
