last evening I traveled 40 miles with no a/c on just air control on. then I noticed hot gage lite on and check engine was on when I noticed temp gage was straight up on hot line. I dropped it down to 45mph turned off air and gage dropped below halfway. this has been the issue for a month. I just don't want to be overcharged keeping in mind the problem could be a condenser, compressor, evaporator replacement, hose leak, thermostat..ect

A lot less costly to get a mechanic to look at it than it is to fry the engine! About all we can do here is offer a guess, needs to be seen.
