When I try to start my 2004 Freightliner 2500 SHC with 38,690 miles, the glow plug light stays on and the radiator fan comes on screaming and won't start. Checked the fuses for the ignition (took them out and reinstalled them, they were all good). There was a screw completely out of its place under the fuse hatch on the steering column. I screwed it back in after checking all the fuses in the column and under the drivers seat. Tried to start it and it started. Drove it around for about 10 minutes, no problem. Shut it off and restarted, no problem. Took a 5 minute drive came back, shut it off and went into the house for several minutes. When I came back out, the problem had returned. I am at a loss as to why it worked and now it won't. Have you run into this problem before? Thanks for any help you can give me. Larry

I would maybe look at coolant temp data, if the fans come on when the engine is cold the ecu may be getting bad information.

Thanks. I State Truck 11152 Courthouse Blvd. in Inver Grove Heights, MN repaired it for me. They said there were 3 loose pins on the CDI connector. The parts were $15.75 (although on the bill I don't see any part number). Check and advise was $218.34, more trouble shooting time was $753.92, shop supplies was $139.70 and $1.12 taxes for a total of $1,196.78. They originally quoted me $2,800.00 then several days later they told me nearly $3,500.00. My feeling is I got taken, but, I was at their mercy, as I am out of state. They had the vehicle for 7 days. Whatever, I am just glad it is on the road again.
