The quality of service, professionalism, warranty, quality of the part and shop environment play into the price. Greg

I Just posted a similar question. I understand what you are saying but how do I know if I'm getting ripped off or not? I just ran an estimate to change a catalytic converter and the estimate had a range over $1,000.

Just water pump and installation is $900.00 with almost 4 hours of labor. You should replace your belt as well since it's already off the vehicle. What do your hoses look like? I know it's expensive but without the repair you have a paperweight. Good luck and happy holidays.
