2004 Nissan Xterra Q&A
2004 Nissan Xterra Question: why is leakage causing starter to burn out?
Starters are not designed to perform in liquid! Suggest you have leak(s) repaired before replacing the starter again. Also have the starter system and ALL circuits checked. Maybe even a better grade of parts will help. - pushrod
Put cardboard under car see what color it is, this will give you a indication of what you are dealing with. But as I lic tech I don't think the leak is causing your problem. We're the starter is located it is constantly subjected to Water, mud, salt, dirt. I would look at buying better parts and check cables, also if you are cranking starter for long periods could be problem - Wirres
