Why doesn't the reverse work on my manual transmission once the car has warmed. on 2001 Saab 9-3

When car has been sitting or is cold it works properly but when warm the manual transmission doesn't like to go into reverse the longer the car has been in use the harder it is to reverse until it won't at all until the car cools.

Ms. Kay - I have the EXACT same issue with my 2001 9-3 Viggen. I can never get reverse to work when the car is hot. Now that it is summer, it is nearly impossible. It just turned over 200K, so I'm sure that doesn't help. My Saab expert is saying it's time to redo the gearbox, but I see other articles online saying it's a 10 min. fix by just turning the reverse gear around. WTF? I'm happy someone else is experiencing the same issue. It's getting really tiresome to park only on hills where I can roll backwards and hope the tranny is cool enough to allow reverse to work. I've also done this: Turn the car off, attempt to get it in gear, it won't, and the shifter will get stuck somewhere between neutral and reverse, but allows me to remove the key. I go about my business. By the time I return, the car happily goes in reverse. What a saab story!
