Question: Why does2001 Taurus start but then it sputters & the anti-theft light come on?

It then runs. Tonight it did not make a sound when I tried to start it, but then a few minutes later, started.

    You have a PATS(passive anti theft system) issue. Have the car scanned with a full enhanced scanner, not a generic code reader.
