I've had my 2002 Jeep Liberty since 2003 & I love it, but it does have a problem. The check engine light had been on since 2006. I've taken it shops to get repaired & they say it needs a new gas cap or oxygen sensor. I've changed both numerous times, but it doesn't help. The check engine light will come back on no less than 3 days later. My husband has replaced the coils & spark plugs also. Now the check engine light is flashing & my Jeep is riding very rough. Any idea what is going on? Thanks.

Looks like there is a hard misfire at least one or more cylinders. There should be few P03xx trouble codes in the PCM. I suggest take it to a mechanic and let them check it. If you ignore the problem it will cause further problems, like a catalytic converter damage.
When the shop runs the diagnostic test ask them ALL the trouble codes and post them here.
