Question: why does my 97 sonoma use so much fuel (150.00 wk)

mechanic said it was the computer new fuel pump,new filter,black soot coming from it when motor is reved,even speed of 55 starts jerking, can computer be reset

    get a new mechanic. you need to start with basics. compression, fuel pressure, spark and its control. cat converter being clogged. these are basics before talking anything let alone a computer.

    Check the vacuum port side of the fuel pressure regulator. It might be dumping fuel into plenum

    Roy and Rick are right! Has there been a check engine light on? Even if there is not it would be worth looking at key engine sensor data and fuel trim figures on a profession grade scan tool to see if anything is a miss. If the repair shop that are repairing your car are stumped this is a great service.
