Why do the front turn signal bulbs burn out so often???? on 2005 Cadillac SRX

I'll now have to replace the left front turn signal bulb for the second time.... Bulb only cost $1.50 but it takes 2 hours to replace it.... Before I do this again does anyone know of a fix that will last????

Any moisture in light assem.? Also check the bulb socket for rust. Bulb may still be ok.
There must be a problem/fix, for everyone that I've ever spoken too that has a SRX has the same problem.... By-the-way, no moisture and zero rust....

Are you touching the bulbs with your fingers? If so, the bulbs may not last long...you need to wear gloves.
The problem is usually that the bulbs just burn out from a combo of constant running and excess vibration. Keep in mind that these bulbs run constantly, night or day, whenever the car is in gear. I don't think there are any other bulbs in the car that run half as much. Also, there are two filaments in the bulbs and both are always powered. The bulb gets very hot.

The problem is not that you need to wear gloves. That is for halogen bulbs that run extremely hot. The oil from your fingers gets on the bulb and oxidizes heavily on the surface of the bulb glass (actually made of quartz to withstand heat). This causes the quartz to expand in a non-uniform manner and shatter. When installing halogen bulbs, use clean cotton gloves and wipe the glass parts with alcohol or acetone to make sure there are no fingerprints or dirt from you or someone else handling the bulb. With these daylight running bulbs, just use your fingers.

The way to get extra life from the daytime running lights is insert a a very low ohm resistor in the line running to each light. I don't recall the rating of the resistor, but it was just a couple of ohms. Use an ohm meter to measure the resistance of the filaments. Remember, there are two filaments in parallel. So measure the filaments separately and use ohm's law to calculate the parallel resistance. Or better yet, measure when both filaments are actually in parallel using a alligator clips to connect the filaments. Then take 10% of the reading you get and make that the resistance of the resistor to wire in SERIES (not in parallel) with each bulb. This should double or triple the life of each bulb while the reduction in brightness should be barely perceptible to the eye. The resistor should be rated at 10 watts.

The positive wire to the left front bulb is dark-blue. The wire to the right front bulb is dark green.

Note that the big bright filament is rated for 2000 hours. There are 8760 hours in a year. If you drive a lot, you will be replacing the bulbs every couple of years at $150-200 per side just for labor. More often if you drive over rough roads.
