why do i smell gas inside and outside of the car? on 2002 Ford Taurus

my engine light is on and I need to put in a new EGR valve but there is also a very strong gas smell in the car now and outside of the car I have 130,000 miles on it. Someone told me it may be the fuel injectors leaking what do you think or know about this.

It's hard to guess at what the cause of fuel smell is without being able to experience the smell first hand or look for leaks or stains as a result of the leak. Fuel leaks are always a risk of fire so it's safest to get it checked out as soon as possible. It could be leaking injectors, leaking fuel rail or fuel pressure regulator, it's impossible to just guess.
