2000 Pontiac Bonneville Question: Why do I smell gas fumes inside my car and have no heat?

I just purchased the car and when I get out the car I smell like gas.When I turn on the car to see why the heat is not working I smell more gas. I dont think its safe for my children to be driving in the car.what can I do inorder for a mechcanic not to rob me.

    sounds like a gas leak somewhere around the front of the car, thats why it gets stronger when you turn the fan on. check around, i'm sure there might be a garage around you somewhere that will check it out for free or little money.
