Question: whirring sound

When I depress the clutch and start to engage the 1st and reverse gears, I get a whirring sound until the gear has been engaged. Then there is no sound and it does not happen in any other gear.

    sounds like the syncros in the transmission are wearing out, but start by making sure the transmission is full of the proper gear oil and it calls for GL-4 or GL-5/75w-90 available at most auto parts stores
