1997 Chevrolet 1500 Pickup Question: where is the voltage regulator found on a 97 chevy 1500

I bought a new battery and alternator and the voltage gauge says its not getting any voltage

    does the gauge work and does alt have pwr to the large wire? the reg. is internal

    I had the alternator tested after I bought it and the said it was fine. The power wire looks fine. The fusable link is good. the only thing that isn't working is the gauge. I went to a different parts store and they told me that it might be the voltage regulator and it would be on the fire wall or the driver side fender

    any suggestions on why the voltage gauge isn't working or how to go about finding the problem, and thanks for your help

    TEST VOLTAGE COMING OUT OF ALT WITH AN AMP METER, IF ITS GOOD THERE TRACE IT BACK TO THE GAUGE. THATS THE LONG WAY BUT I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE A GAUGE TESTER.THE CIRCUIT BOARD ON INST. CLUSTER MAY BE BAD AT AMP GAUGE
