where is the speed sensor on 1999 Mazda Protege

how would i replace the speed sensor

If you mean the wheel speed sensor (WSS) on the transmission, it's on the back side of the trans, above the differential. It's held by a 10mm hex bolt and has an electrical connector.
If you're talking about the ABS WSS's, there's one at each wheel hub, attached (as I remember) by a 10mm hex bolt and has an electrical connector at each wheel's sensor. Should be easy in any case.
i am not sure what one is bad i will look though
