Question: Where is the oil pan on a 4x4 Montero Sport. I don't want to drain the gear oil.

I want to change oil for the first time on my 2003 Montero Sport 4x4. Just wondering, if the drain plug in the front under the engine is the gear oil. Is the oil pan plug back by the passenger side door the correct one to change the engine crankcase oil?

    You're scaring me.. You'd better have a friend who knows how to do this help you the first time or two. If you don't do it right, you'll have some kinda disaster so please take me seriously. You need to be able to identify the components before laying on wrench..
    The engine crankcase drainplug is on the engine oil pan, nowhere else. Be sure you're working on the engine if you decide to do this yourself.

    I drive a Montero Sport 2000 and I purchased it new.......it has been a great car.
    There is a skid plate under motor that must be removed before you have access to the drain plug on the drain pan. I have mind removed at this time, but if you go off road at all you need to reinstall after you have changed your oil. also do not over fill......stop at 4 quarts and test after driving. ease a little more to full and you will have done a great job.
    I used to have my oil changed by others but got tired of waiting.......use a good quality filter and check for leaks after changing.....put fresh paper under filter and drain plug........Good Luck JCAL
