I am having the same problem with my 2006 Ford Five Hundred. Where (recommendations Please!) do I get the freon evacuated? Do I just tell them to remove freon...bc I am sure they are going to want to diagnosis themselves, etc.

Thanks for your help. I found a guy locally who would remove and hold R134a until I replaced the valve. He wouldn't replace it because he didn't believe that would fix the problem. It took me and a friend about 15 minutes to get the old valve out and replace it. The new valve solved the warm a/c problem. It is actually colder now than it had been the last 2 years. Thanks to everyone who gave tips on this issue. Ford should put out a service bulletin on this and replace the valves for free when they go at 60-70,000 miles. Mine had 72,000 on it when it failed. It probably was going earlier than that but my wife never said anything. If you can't find someone to evacuate your system and refill it I would just let it go into the atmosphere and refill with new R134a from Autozone. Getting to the refill valve is a little tight but doable. You want to evacuate the system to make sure their is no air in it. In Cincinnati area I would go to Jose's Auto Service in Fairfield. He is a good mechanic and very reasonable. He won't replace the valve though because he cannot warranty the repair in case it doesn't work. For anyone with warm air on a Ford Five Hundred I would say try replacing the Compressor Control Valve in the compressor first. All together I spent $194.00 including having the R134a checked first (that was $100.00). I could have skipped that step and went straight to replacing the valve and saved even more. To replace the compressor I got a quote of $888.00 only because I know the shop asst mgr and he was going to give me a discount.
