My 1997 nissan altima is shutting down at stop signs or lights. My brother looked at it and found a hose that is not connected to anything. We can't find where it belongs. The top of the hose is shaped like a candy cane and it is located by the transmission. Any help out there. Thank you.

TechnicianDo you have a check engine light? The hose sounds like the vent for the transmission and is suppose to be open. I recommend looking at the air intake duct hose from air cleaner/mass air sensor to engine and vent hoses branching off of that. Make sure there are no cracks or leaks.
