My 1997 nissan altima is shutting down at stop signs or lights. My brother looked at it and found a hose that is not connected to anything. We can't find where it belongs. The top of the hose is shaped like a candy cane and it is located by the transmission. Any help out there. Thank you.

Do you have a check engine light? The hose sounds like the vent for the transmission and is suppose to be open. I recommend looking at the air intake duct hose from air cleaner/mass air sensor to engine and vent hoses branching off of that. Make sure there are no cracks or leaks.
i have located the map sensor with a vacuum hose attached to the sensor where does the other end of the hose attach to - it is disconnected
when changed starter had small hose coming off the master cylinder (brake fluid) cap where does it plug up at. couldnt find spot
