Where can this code (adaption) be found? on 2002 Mercedes-Benz C230

I was told that if you pulled the radio out and get the serial number ,call dealership and they would have a code you could punch in on the radio key pad and guess this would activate a menu to program CD option. Anybody heard of this?

I believe that you said that you replaced your battery, and then the 5 CD changer was not being seen any more? You radio code should be in your stereo owners manual . If not, you can call them, Mercedes, and give your VIN and they should be able to give it to you over the phone. Or, you can have a savy Mercedes shop do it. If the radio is the original, the code should be in a factory data base, which means it would not be needed to remove the radio, which can be tricky. Usually though, when you need the code, the radio does not work. I believe that you said your radio still worked, it was just that the CD was not being seen. If the radio still works, then look in your Stereo owners manual for information on how to access the menus for CD recognition, or have a good MB shop do it. It should be a minimal charge, if any to re-set this adaption.
