I dislike ever pull starting a truck or starting the diesel engine with ether unless it is last resort or once off temporary means of starting an engine. A diesel engine requires the glow plugs to start from cold, if they work and the engine has fuel ( injected at sufficiently high pressure) and mechanical integrity (develops adequate compression) the engine should start. Tow starting the engine if the engine has internal mechanical damage can do a lot more harm than god. Safer get things checked out by a mechanic with good diesel knowledge.
