    There are two things that you can check that indicate a valve cover gasket failure. #1- Take a spark plug wire off and the plug out, if it has oil on it, if there is oil-your spark plug cylinder rings are leaking (these come with the valve cover gasket kit) Make sure you ask if the kit comes with those rings.
    This can be a problem with only one spark plug...so to do a thorough job, you'll need to look at all of them.
    #2- If you see oil on the outside of the engine in the space between the valve cover gasket and the engine. (This is the very top cover if you don't know)
