a few weeks ago I stopped and put my car in park It made like a loud grinding noise. But it was shortly lived. just a few seconds. and only heard it once after that. Well today it did the same thing again. short lived had no idea wat was making the noise it was random and short lived.
i got to my final destination today and pushed my shifter into park. with my eyes on my dashboard it said it was still in D and made aloud grinding noise. I quick turned it off. I went to restart it and it still hadnt moved to park. Even thou the actually shifter knob was in park.
I had turned jsut the power on in the car not the actual engine. and was shifting the shifter around watching the dashboard it wasnt going to the gears i was putting the shifter in and the n and p wouldnt even light up when the actually shifter was there. I got it started and quick shifted to the D where the dash said it was. i tried going to park or nuetral it made that loud grinding noise. But going to r d 3 2 1 it would shift into those gears fine and the dash board gear lights were lighting up when it was in one of those gears. I tried n one more time and it finally shifted into n with out grinding, and i drove it home and it was fine again.
its like even thou the actual shifter is in park the car really is in drive and its grinding. when driving the transmission shifts into 1st,2nd, etc... gears with no problems, it never has skipped jerked or anything. and even after this tonight when driving home it shifted fine throught the 1st, 2nd, etc... gears.
please help. could this be the shifting linkage?(which i realyl dont know what it is) or is this my actually trany, i have no idea. is this going to be expensive?
