Question: When is it necessary to replace rear struts

Dealer says they need replacement. Mechanic says they should not. How do I know whch is right?

    I'd tend to go with the more conservative option unless you have reason to suspect the struts.. If you have any concern about the condfition of your suspension, have your mechanic or an alignment shop check it out. If the car bounces too much in the rear, or more than it used to, I'd recommend struts. If the struts have bad mounting parts or are leaking, they need to be replaced. You could ask the dealer guy why they need to be replaced, and if there's a good answer, tell your mechanic or get another opinion.
