2007 Lexus RX350 Question: When brake rotors and pads need to be replaced.

Question

Visitor, Canton, NY, October 16, 2010, 20:33

I was told I needed to replace brake pads and rotors for both front and rear wheels. Mileage at time of repair was 39,000 miles. The total cost was $1,300. Is this reasonable in terms of replacement and cost. The repairs were done at a certified Lexus dealer.

Ask them how thick the rotors and the pads are in millimeter.
I strongly believe the rotors could be resurfaced. Get a second opinion from an independent shop with good reputation.

All I can say is that it is outrageous. The parts, if needed, $150 at most. Time to do 5 hrs., if you know what you are doing.
As a hobby I could do it in 3 hrs. if just replacing rotors and pads. The rotors have the minimum thickness stamped on them.
I agree the rotors could be turned for $10 or so each.I have done this before.
One more thing to mention. If they needed all he said at 35,000 I would get rid of the car because at every 35, 000 miles you are going to shell out $1,300??
